Grain can be found through out the green, if it gets visibly darker from one angle that means there is more grass there meaning more resistance to rolling. (Against grain)
If the grass is lighter than the grass around it means it is easier to roll it is with grain. (Down grain)
Normally no real grain is considered. But if its like half and half , just combine grain and no grain and average it out.
